Custom Hibachi at Super Red Bowl

Teriyaki Chicken Bowl with Noodles + Wild & Wonderful Sushi Roll

Super Red Bowl opened its doors in the fall of 2021 and I started hearing about it almost immediately. Its build-your-own hibachi menu brought a customized food experience that wasn’t available in Morgantown before, aside from a salad bar or food court. Nowadays, the restaurant is also known as the latest sushi date-night spot in Morgantown.

Super red bowl build your own hibatchi bowl

Walking into Super Red Bowl, I was greeted by a friendly face that sat me at a table and was also there to show me how the ‘build your own bowl’ station works when I walked back up to the front. You order your bowl with your server and clarify your choice of rice or noodles, then go through the line to fill your tray with ingredients. I put on disposable gloves, and step by step, I filled my bowl down the line with various proteins, vegetables, toppings, spices, and my desired sauce. On the side, you can request an egg be included as well as take away additional sauces to your table.

Because I was only filling ingredients into a small silver bowl, I didn’t think I was going to get as much food out of it as I did. For $11.99 I tried to pile everything I could into it, thinking I was only going to get a small portion. Lesson learned! Once my noodles were added, the serving ended up quite large. Brought to my table in an aptly named red bowl, I ended up taking half of my food home with me.

Super Red Bowl's sushi roll display

The very attentive staff was serving me quickly. Before going through the grill line, I had ordered the Wild & Wonderful specialty sushi roll. Stuffed with shrimp tempura, cream cheese, jalapeno, and avocado, and topped with spicy crabmeat and spicy mayo, I enjoyed the addition to my already large meal. This roll was thoughtfully displayed down to the platter, with a flower added - for beauty, I did not try to eat it although I wonder if that was part of it. Usually, specialty tempura rolls are too big to eat in one mouthful, but this roll was perfectly bite-sized so I could taste all the flavor without breaking apart the piece to fit in my mouth.

Super Red Bowl’s menu includes poke bowls that you can also customize, appetizers for everyone, and plenty of sushi and sashimi choices. When I went they also had a new special menu for ramen now that the weather is colder. Perfect timing after our first snowfall of the year!

Rating: The Morgantown Dish rates this a 10/10 - I will go again. With custom food, I can get my favorite thing built in a variety of ways every time!
