Reservations Required: Brunch at Von Blaze!

Where: Von Blaze
Map It: 1 Wall St, Morgantown, WV 26505
Dish: Deviled Crab Benedict

It's been a little over a year since Von Blaze opened their doors downtown, tucked away off Chestnut Street. The place has been one of the most talked about restaurants that have come about recently in Morgantown and has made a splash as a local sandwich shop that’s expanded to brunch and a highly sought-after monthly Ramen night.

I decided to head on down this past Sunday to check out their brunch menu, which was stellar! It features classics taken to a higher level, like super thick-cut French toast and truly fresh-squeezed orange juice. It was hard to pick just one dish, so I went big and ordered the Deviled Crab Benedict.

I was served a tall order, literally! You get a full English muffin topped with a super delicious lump crab cake that plays the main part, pairing perfectly in a poached egg and hollandaise. You can actually taste the crab cake, which is usually smothered away by the creaminess of sauce and yolk, but everything paired so very well.

The owners have been there every time I’ve visited and work hard to make your experience special. I am always greeted with a warm smile. If I bring my 8-month-old, we’ll be accommodated the best way they can - he came along for the ride this weekend. Honestly, he was along for the ride in the womb, too, when I would crave their drummies and a Coke during the middle of the work day.

If you go for lunch or dinner during regular business hours, you need to add the drummies to your order. Two fried-crispy chicken drumsticks and always hot out of the fryer, they are my go-to appetizer. I like the garlic parm version (add a little extra sauce on the side for your fries, too!).

Great food, good drink, hometown service. Surely this is what garnered Von Blaze a first place spot on my Top Restaurant List for 2023, as voted by my followers on Instagram each January.

It wouldn’t be a proper Morgantown Dish review without a rating at the end: 10/10 I would go again!
