Nonno Carlo: Authentic Italian in Morgantown

Dish: The Italiano Sandwich, Caprese Salad, Margherita Pizza

Buongiorno! This place blew my expectations away. I thought I was going to get a sub shop, but when I walked into @nonnocarlowv, I read that they carry legitimate, quality meats from Italy. So, if you want a sandwich that is piled high with cured goodness like prosciutto, mortadella, porchetta (yes! porchetta!!) all on some unique focaccia bread… you go here. Don’t go anywhere else! That said, this kind of quality isn’t run of the mill so you’re not going to pay run-of-the-mill prices, but you’re literally putting your money where your mouth is.

The sandwiches come with spreads so I would recommend getting these on the side unless you know you’ll absolutely love it because they do pack a flavor punch.

Gotta love an easy Caprese! This one is perfectly cold so you may want to let it sit for a few mins so the EVOO can liquify (of course I stuffed my face). Their homemade mozzarella is different than the stuff you get from the store. It’s firmer and tastes better. This is one of the more tasty Caprese salads I’ve had! Salt and basil and EVOO and tomato and mozz all come together for perfection. Did I mention I love cheese?

PIZZA ALERT: the pizza from Nonno Carlo tastes like the pizza you get in Italy. I have been to Italy twice (brag?) to visit family that owns an Italian grocery (brag?) and have never found American pizza to even touch the decadent glory that is Italian pizza. It’s something about a sweeter sauce that the fresh mozzarella and basil melt into, folded between a brick oven-fired, bready crust. Holy heck. I’m done.

The only thing I need is the guest WiFi password so I can sit there and eat all day while I work.
