Sweet Baby’s at Rising Creek is the fresh new cafe that recently opened its doors in Mount Morris, PA. The location was formerly home to renowned Rising Creek Bakery. While the ownership is not affiliated with the original bakery, the tradition lives on. You can still snag that legendary loaf in-store.
My first taste of salt rising bread from an earlier Morgantown Dish review mentions the toast packing “an incredibly flavorful punch.... It was tangy, with a faint hint of cheese, and a crunch that rang out nearly like a toasted baguette but felt much softer to chew. When paired together with an omelet, the bread only enhances the best flavors of breakfast - butter, egg, and cheese.”
While it was the bread that brought me to Sweet Baby’s out of curiosity, it was the show-stopping pastries and a mouth watering menu that made me stay for a bite. It's a refreshing take on something that Morgantown continues to need more of: home made, locally sourced, and of course, trendy vibes inside.
I ordered home-made chicken salad on a croissant and it went above and beyond expectations. The buttery pastry was toasted via press and topped with fresh parsley and brushed with more butter for good measure. The chicken salad itself was perfectly seasoned, stuffed with protein, grapes, celery, mayo and dijon mustard. The first bite offered a satisfying crunch that surrounded the warm bread and cool chicken salad filling. Yum!
I had to make it a full lunch with a side of creamy Italian chicken soup and a salad. The soup was brimming full of flavor, spinach and sun dried tomatoes - perfect for a cold winter day. Note - I tried to dupe this with a Pinterest recipe and was severely disappointed. If I want this again I'm going to have to go back. And the salad was fresh even in December! Bright tomatoes I didn't mind eating off-season lets me know they source from the best possible purveyors.
I ended up leaving with four of those pastries that made me stick around - a blueberry scone, a couple cookies and a flaky pecan pastry that was my favorite. I also took home a quart of the soup because it was so fantastic. Sweet Baby’s offers plenty of grab and go meals and take and bake dinners for the family, details are posted when available on their social channels.
Straight from the Morgantown Dish’s mouth: you have to try this place.
So if you haven’t yet made the trek to Sweet Baby’s, do yourself a favor and check it out. Whether you’re there for the historic salt rising bread or a bite to eat, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
