Short Story Brewing
Every beer tells a story… and so do their burgers
There wasn’t a big splash for a grand opening per se, but after some chit-chat stating it was open on the Morgantown Dish’s Foodie Talk Facebook page, I made my way to Short Story Brewing’s newest location in Westover last week. Yes, it is officially open for business.
The brewery and restaurant is located just over the Westover Bridge and to the right if you’re crossing from Morgantown. It’s the renovated white building next to the river that we’ve all been staring at for months with the hope that it would turn into something great. Our dreams came true!
When you walk in, you instinctively walk to the right and towards the main bar. In this section, there is both indoor and outdoor seating and a large bar. You order at the bar and they’ll give you a number to take back to your seat. The expansive outdoor deck has great views of the river and the city. While inside was a little loud, friends found a quieter space across the entrance to the left which offered a second bar with a cocktail menu and garage doors that could open into the large turf courtyard with Adirondack chairs.
I am a fan of small menus. It cuts down on analysis paralysis for the guest and it usually means that the chef will deliver something delicious from perfecting a handful of items. This menu did not disappoint! Burgers, salads, and sides, and it’s quite a tale of local business. Short Story partnered with Morgantown staple Lefty’s Place to run the restaurant side of the business. Named The Burger Place, Lefty’s turned to local Village Butcher to provide an exclusive blend of premium ground beef for their menu. I have said it on Instagram and I’ll say it here - Village Butcher has some of the best burgers in town, so to say that I was ecstatic about this partnership is an understatement. And the food was great! Perfect, juicy burgers were quickly delivered with crispy onion rings and waffle fries, big green salads with a healthy protein portion, and ranch dressing was of course house-made. A nod to parents, the kid's menu items were delivered with an apple sauce pouch. Plus the fenced-in turf lawn? My family is hooked.
The week closed with a post from The Burger Place stating that they sold just over 1,000 burgers in their first 5 and a half days - a great start! Want to give good burgers and brews in Westover a try? Short Story Brewing and The Burger Place is open 11am - 10pm Tuesday through Sunday, closed on Mondays.
