Are you ready for the perfect summer treat? Stop by Udders Creamery in Reedsville, West Virginia. This ice cream trailer is one of my top places to visit for a treat in the area and they are entering their fourth season in business. After spending the day in the sun, their huge sundae servings and unique flavor combinations will have you living your best summer life.
Ice Cream in Preston County
The place seems almost nostalgic for me. No, I didn’t have a trailer covered in cow spots next door. I didn’t ever have to drive down a gravel road to get there, nor did any of my own hometown ice cream joints have an area for chickens. But the people - all ages - hanging out with a smile on their face and not looking at their phones reminds me of summers at the pool snack bar back in the 90’s. Life was good, you’re having a treat, and there’s no cell service. That’s part of its charm.
The actual service is fast, though. If you visit Udders during operating hours, 5p-9p Wednesday through Thursday and 1p-9p Saturday and Sunday, there will be a line to the parking lot. It seems intimidating but it’s fairly speedy, and the staff is churning out so much ice cream in such a small space you have to hand it to them. Plus, there are plenty of Adirondack chairs or picnic tables to hang out on while you wait, and you’ll most likely see someone you know there.
The Ultimate Ice Cream Sundae
After you order - either off of the extensive menu (specialty sundaes are aptly named Cow Patti, Jersey, Holstein) or by creating your own topping concoction, your number will be called within a few minutes. Depending on the size you order, you might receive a to-go container stuffed full of soft-serve and hot fudge and toppings. Dig in! Their homemade soft-serve flavors cover all the classics and some unique ones, too. I recall last summer's cheesecake ice cream, orange dreamsicle, and pistachio flavors and look forward to learning what they think up this year.
