5 Places to Order Cheesecake in Morgantown

Love is in the air! Valentine’s Day just passed but I have a list that will continue to make a mark on whoever you’re trying to impress. Forget driving 50+ miles to The Cheesecake Factory, Morgantown, WV has plenty of places to find a classic, rich slice - or even a more unique one if that’s your style! I hope you can schedule a moment this month to try one of these options and find your favorite spot to indulge right here at home.

1. Homegrown Pizza - 3429 Earl L Core Rd (Dellslow)

Every time I post about Homegrown Pizza, it’s a guarantee that someone will send a message to rave about how great their cheesecakes and cannolis are. A pizza shop with great desserts - who knew? While the stars did not align on timing for me to try a slice, the community has spoken. These cheesecakes may be some of the best in town! Watch their social channels, a slice runs at $5.50 and comes in an array of different flavors.

2. Burton’s Bakery - Online order, Morgantown area pickup

I learned of Burton’s Bakery by word of mouth over the holidays. Calijah Burton is a senior at WVU, and a home baker turned into a cheesecake entrepreneur. These beautiful cakes are very rich in texture with a classic cheesecake flavor and topped with everything to make a gourmet cake. I would recommend this as the dessert after a large celebratory meal to share amongst friends. Fun flavors like Oreo (pictured), cinnamon roll, or Boston cream are listed on an extensive menu. You can order whole cakes starting at $55 or minis at $6 each in half-dozen increments. Between senior classes and a pastry apprenticeship, Burton’s Bakery asks for a 2-week lead time on orders.

3. Terra Cafe - 425 Industrial Ave (Star City)

With desserts known for Instagram-worthiness, Terra Cafe has cheesecakes available in the case and made to order. I chose a coffee mini cheesecake from the case topped with whipped cream and decorated with chocolate disks. It was incredibly light, softer than a New York style cheesecake, and not too sweet. The cream cheese flavor was unique - much deeper than your basic Philadelphia Cream Cheese. It was a very enjoyable bite and left me wanting to know how they made it. The menu online features a modest selection of four flavors starting at $45, and minis at $30/dozen.

4. Eureka Cafe - 287 Eureka Dr (Wiles Hill Community Center)

True to form, Eureka Cafe offered two unique cheesecakes in the case: chocolate cherry and coconut cheesecake. I opted for the chocolate cherry mini cheesecake for $5.50. The cake was quite thick, piled high with icing and chocolate details. A gold-flaked Maraschino cherry topped the whole thing! It was a piece of art, and the texture was much more cakey than expected. This could be a great intro to cheesecake for someone who wouldn’t normally be keen on the texture and cheese flavor, but does enjoy the Maraschino flavor I say go for it, of course!

5. Sugar Bar Sweets & Coffee - 1030 Suncrest Towne Centre Dr (Suncrest Towne Centre)

Finally, I could not go without mentioning Sugar Bar. While they offer slices in the case, they also have a little surprise you will see when you first walk in. A twist on the original, Sugar Bar has cheesecake waffle cones! These delightful treats are $9.99 each, and a half dozen cookies ‘n cream-flavored cones were staring right at me. Of course I had to get one! Intrigued on how I was going to consume this, the cashier simply stated that you are supposed to eat it… well…  like an ice cream cone. The cheesecake inside was sweet and textured like custard, with all the delicious flavors of cookies and cream cheesecake. The custard was light and fluffy, but the whole thing was exactly that: very much like an ice cream cone. The best part of this is that you can take your time to eat it as it won’t melt at room temperature. An instant hit!

That is a wrap on The Morgantown Dish’s five places you can get cheesecake right in town. After all the cake tasting, I think I’ve got to try a few salads next!
